How can you possibly paint over a shiny stain or varnish or a painted finish — without any sanding, priming or preparation of any sort?
I decided to test this claim by painting two of these super-shiny, high-gloss wood chairs. I felt a bit weak-in-the-knees as I dipped my brush in and went for it. After a lifetime of "prep" being everything, this felt...well...it felt wrong!
But the results speak for themselves. I was over the moon with how easy the paint glided on (like butter!) and stuck to the surface.
The Chalk Paint actually bonded with the substrate creating an opaque finish. Even better, it doesn't chip or scratch like ordinary synthetic paints and varnishes. The chairs I've painted with chalk paint hold up much better to abuse than those I painted with latex and even enamel.
And Voila! The AFTER photos:
The red chair on the left took two thin coats of Autentico Red Stripe. I used a 120ml Sample Pot.
Then I stencilled a simple leaf pattern in copper metallic paint. The final step? I love an aged look, so I finished with a coat of DARK WAX to protect and seal the paint and take it from a gorgeous, chalky matte to a warm, mellow patina.
For the Bubble Chair on the right I didn't want a solid, opaque finish but preferred to have some of the wood grain peaking through. I used a beautiful soft white (Autentico offers a variety of shades of white so you can get exactly the look you are after) called White Cliff and it took three coats to achieve the look I was after. But the paint is so quick-drying and easy to use, it only took me about 45 minutes in total...Amazing!
I painted the spindle back and added a gorgeous bubble pattern in Autentico's soft aqua shade Mint Julep before adding a quick and easy coat of Clear Wax for a protective and gorgeous final lustre.
Still unconvinced this easy and dramatic transformation wasn't a fluke...I made over one more chair.
Here are the Results:
No sanding, no prep. I used two coats of Autentico Patina and followed with a coat of Dark Wax to take this chair from hotel-lobby-blah to inherited-vintage-chic!
I'm triply convinced that Autentico Chalk Paint is nothing short of magic. These chairs showcase the many uses and applications for countless transformation projects. This non-toxic, environmentally-friendly paints have so many uses. They can be used over plastic, glass, metal, wood, fabric and the list goes on.

it's all here...for the love....
