Someone had discarded her — hard to believe with those gorgeous legs.
And I had just been dreaming of a tall, leggy
nightstand for my guest bedroom redo.
Serendipity?!
not only as a "primer" for the Metallic Paint to come,
but also in case I decided to pull some of that
gorgeous blue colour through the layers I was envisioning.
Fortunately, I had a rare day when I was caught up in the studio,
so I wasted NO time getting started.
No time like the present!
I was after a vintage, worn-wallpaper look for my guest bedroom
with a hint of modern edge.
I began by wiping down the inside with a vinegar, water
and essential oil spray I use often in the studio.
Then the insides were freshened up with a quick coat of
Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint
in "leftovers" of Dried Lavender, French Enamel,
Flow Blue and random other colours.
You do not have to wait for the spray to dry, just start painting.
She had very thirsty ply insides and soaked
the Milk Paint up beautifully.
Lumiere Metallic Paint in Crimson.
It's a lovely pinky-red with a whole lot of shimmer.
(Which doesn't photograph terribly well!)
a gorgeous stencil was added in Metallic Rust.
As an aside, two coats of the Crimson Metallic Paint
used about a jar and a half.
At $17.95, that's pretty great value (and coverage!)
for metallic paint.
Another reason I'm a huge fan of Lumiere.
The stencil is the foundation to creating the
layered wallpaper look
so keep in mind it should be an allover pattern
that is pleasing to the eye
regardless of what area is showing through.
Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint inside
complement the beautiful outer layers.
Next up was a bit of fun with knobs
playing off the colour.
You can find them on the website.
a sealer to provide extra shine once finished with the base.
It also acts somewhat as a resist
to pull across the next coat of Lumiere Metallic Paint.
It's all here...for the love...
Sada
was roughly dragged across the stencil work.
You don't want careful brush strokes here,
the rougher the better.
This patchy finish provides an unexpected
hit of pattern and colour
in a time-worn style similar to vintage peeling wallpaper....LOVE!!!
