to finish up some projects asap...but was sidelined...
A favourite second-hand-haunt beckoned.
I'm searching for a specific display piece for the Shop and popped in.
Well, that's how I justified it.
Back in the corner of the store, flipped on her top was this beauty.
Marked down no less!
Yup, that's more justification...
would lead to some serious chippy action when painted
I used Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint
in the colour Grain Sack — just one coat.
Because I had drug her home and was painting
while trying to finish paperwork in my home office
there are no progress photos...
my house is too dark so I didn't even bother.
But she started to chip.
This is a unique finish specific to MMS Milk Paint.
Milk Paint will (sometimes) crack, chip and flake off
of a surface creating the
authentic aged appearance of antique furniture.
at this point as I never get this reaction when painting!
Miss Mustard Seed herself often says
Milk Paint isn't for control freaks and sometimes chippy happens.
And sometimes it doesn't.
I'm almost always in the "it doesn't" camp.
Maybe this table was so happy to be rescued
from the freezing cold warehouse and was now
in my super-toasty house and
was so relieved she decided to chip for me?!!
By the way, it's freezing cold here in Adelaide.
I just read the coldest start to Winter in 30+ years.
Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint is ALL natural, absolutely no
VOCs or any harmful ingredients.
You can paint indoors, there's no danger or odours.
It's completely safe.
After noticing the chippy,
I used a wet rag and wiped the entire table down
to help the chippy along and smooth the finish.
Once dried I placed the Single Dill Flower stencil
on top and tried something different.
Instead of painting the design on I used a
wet rag to remove the paint and leave the pattern in
a sort-of reverse design.
I kinda love it...
to apply one coat of Furniture Wax before polishing to a smooth finish.
The Wax stopped any further chipping and sealed the Milk Paint.
Another good point, Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture Wax
is museum grade and is not sticky or tacky like other waxes on the market.
It is smooth and creamy with NO horrible odour
and again, beautiful and safe enough to use indoors.
I even rub the excess into my skin as a moisturiser!
If you haven't tried it yet...do so asap!
Here's the result.
I hope you love it like I do, it was a beautiful distraction..he he
