The Wonder Puck — A Quick Tip for Easy-gliding Drawers

Many of you are already familiar with distressing a piece of furniture using the amazing Wax Puck from Miss Mustard Seed. (If not, and you'd like to learn more, click HERE.)


But as necessity is the mother of invention, today I discovered yet another use.

Drawers can often stick or develop a "bumpy" glide over time.

A good tip for a smooth open and close is to remove all drawers and wax the timber drawer rails.

Simply rub wax up and down the drawer rails and then repeat on the underside of the drawer (on the guide). 

This typically results in a noticeable improvement on the smoothness of the glide when opening and closing drawers.

Today I was desperately trying to finish a restyle of a vintage hutch with four very sticky drawers. It was the last step in a long project and do you think I could find my wax?

But sitting nearby on the shelf was my Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint Wax Puck and I thought....why not?!

I rubbed the MMSMP Wax Puck up and down the drawer rails a few times being certain to get the top as well as both sides. Then I replaced the drawers one at a time (they only have small metal guides on the drawers, so no waxing was necessary). 

The drawers slid in beautifully with no clunks or catches. Voila! And another great use for the gorgeous wax pucks.

*As an aside, you can also use a bar of soap to do this. However, most homes these days typically only have liquid soap.
